India currently has around 347 institutes of higher education and 16,885 colleges with a total enrollment of over 9.9 million. These produce around 495,000 technical graduates, nearly 2.3 million other graduates and over 300,000 postgraduates every year. In case of school education, the number is staggering. There are 123.7 million students studying in schools across the country. Imagine the impact of such number or (even 50% of them) getting into the wrong course or profession on the economy of the country in terms of loss of resources, apart from impact on other social aspects. The magnitude and intensity of the problem can be understood from the following references:
“The four major challenges which exist today include employability, infrastructure, favorable policies and competition from other low cost countries. Low employability of existing talent with only 10-15% employable graduates in business services and 26% of employable engineers in technology services continues to be a major bottleneck” NASSCOM ‘PERSPECTIVE 2020

“There is an urgent need to develop and upgrade the soft skills levels" of students. While most students possessed sound technical knowledge, they lacked communication and managerial skills, which the IT industries looked for as employers. All the recommendations should be given "top priority" because of cutting-edge competition, and for doing so governments must invest heavily in education” (President NASSCOM)
“Currently only about 25 percent of India’s technical graduates and 10-15 percent of general college graduates are suitable for employment in the offshore IT and BPO industries” The NASSCOM-McKinsey Study-2005
